Service Learning provides an excellent pedagogy for introducing students to different cultural backgrounds and helping them become more aware of the issues people face in relation to culture. In light of these issues, Service Learning partnered with the Tangaza Students Association to present a cultural week to the students themed, “The Joy of Cultural Diversity Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic.”
Service learning, using our curriculum to meet real needs in our communities while fostering relevant and deeper learning for students used this opportunity to cultivate the mindsets of the students to participate in this activity and be able to achieve and embrace global citizenship in the campus.
The students were enlightened on the existence of a variety of cultural groups within the school in relation to their different characteristics such as culture, religion, ethnicity, language, nationality, sexual orientation, class, gender, age, disability, health differences, geographic location and lots of other things.
The event equipped the students and the faculty with tips they can use to link Service Learning in embracing cultural diversity in school.
