Students’ Capacity Building at Mwenge Catholic University, Tanzania
The Africa Regional Hub organized a student engagement Training of Trainers (TOT) at the Mwenge Catholic University, Tanzania. 28 students from different faculties attended the TOT. There were representatives from different programmes such as Education, Geography and Environmental Studies, Law, Project Planning and Management, among others.
The goal of the training was to empower students with skills as part of the ongoing awareness creation on Service Learning in higher education focusing on the role of students in promoting Service Learning at higher learning institutions. The training included an overview of Service Learning in the Africa Hub, experiences of student engagement in different hubs within the Uniservitate Network, Mindset Change for Service Learning, and the 5-part Students’ Service Learning model for student engagement.
As part of the training, students were able to come up with potential Service Learning activities and projects that would be implemented in areas including membership recruitment; creativity, sports and media; community engagement (environmental sensitivity); dissemination, research and publication; and local, regional and international friendship.
